Summary of Experience
Darlene Schinlever is an internal audit and control consulting professional with more than 30 years of experience in the banking industry. Darlene began her career as an Assistant Staff Auditor for Crestar Bank (now SunTrust Bank) in 1980 and rose to a Senior Vice President in the audit division before her job was eliminated as part of the SunTrust merger in 1999. For the past eight years, Darlene has provided internal audit services to community banks ranging in asset size from 50 million to 2.6 billion through her own consulting practice and one year with a large accounting firm. Darlene is experienced in working with Board of Director’s, Audit Committee’s, external accountants, bank regulators and other banking and regulatory authorities. Darlene is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and holds a Masters Degree in Business (MBA).
Darlene’s experience in internal auditing includes audits for bank functions including accounting, asset liability management (ALM)/interest rate risk (IRR), deposits, investments, human resources, item processing, retail offices, wire transfer and trust services. Darlene’s consulting experience also includes specialized consulting and compliance reviews and testing for allowance for loan and lease losses (ALLL), Automated Clearing House (ACH), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Customer Identification Program (CIP) Public Funds Certification and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Section 404 Documentation and Testing.
Through her experience over the past eight years with her own consulting company and twelve months with a large accounting firm, Darlene has expanded her consulting services to include start-up work with de novo banks, entity risk assessment, Enterprise Risk Management services, Quality Assurance Review (QAR’s) of in-house auditing functions and evaluation and coordination of outsourced internal auditing services.
Darlene is a member of and active participant with the Virginia Association of Community Bankers (VACB). She has attended many events and conferences sponsored by the VACB and most recently partnered with the VACB to provide training to internal auditors on BSA/CIP auditing and the responsibilities of internal audit oversight by the Audit Committee.
